How to get to the Burren for your chosen visit
When planning how to get to the Burren, choose the place you actually want to reach before comparing transport. The wider landscape includes villages, caves and farmland, while the National Park is a distinct destination. A journey to Doolin Pier is different from a journey to the park information point in Corofin. Put the exact address into your travel plan, alongside the time of any booked visit.
Shannon Airport (SNN) is an arrival point for onward travel by bus, car or an arranged transfer. Galway provides another starting point for public transport and day excursions. If you are still deciding between a coastal base and an inland one, use the area guide for accommodation before fixing your route. This helps you avoid choosing transport around a place you will only visit briefly.

Taxi and transfers from Shannon Airport (SNN)
Arrange a taxi or transfer using the precise destination and your arrival details. Ask for a quotation for that journey, including your party and luggage, and agree the meeting arrangements. A fare for Galway should not be used as the budget for Doolin or Corofin. The name Burren alone is too broad to describe the final drop-off you need.
For a useful driving reference, Doolin Cave gives about one hour from Shannon Airport to the cave. This is the attraction's approximate journey time to its own entrance, rather than a promise for every Burren destination. Leave room between landing and a timed activity for airport formalities, collecting luggage and the onward journey. Keep your cave booking or other fixed appointment separate from the estimated arrival of your flight.

A Galway day excursion as an alternative
For a day starting in Galway, this small-group excursion includes a local guide and air-conditioned transport; hotel pickup must be requested at least 24 hours beforehand.
Public buses via Ennis and along the coast
Bus Γireann route 330 links Shannon Airport and Ennis via Newmarket-on-Fergus. From Ennis, plan the relevant route 350 service towards the Burren separately. Compare both timetables and allow for a missed connection when deciding whether a same-day timed visit is practical. Booking an attraction first and only then looking for a bus can leave an awkward gap in your day.
Route 350 connects Galway and Ennis via the Cliffs of Moher. Since 27 July 2025, its Ballyvaughan to Lisdoonvarna section follows the N67. For the coast through Black Head and Fanore, look at route 351 instead. That route lists Galway, Ballyvaughan, Black Head, Fanore, Lisdoonvarna, Doolin Pier and the Cliffs, but individual departures can cover only part of the route. Read the stops for your specific service and identify the return journey before setting out.
Car hire and parking
Collecting a hire car at Shannon Airport lets you plan a route between separate destinations. Compare collection and return times with your flights, and use each attraction's actual parking point in your navigation. Work out the parking arrangements before adding several stops, particularly if your day includes a timed cave tour.
Parking is free at Corofin according to NPWS, at Aillwee according to the local tourism information, and at Doolin Cave according to the cave operator. Doolin Pier has paid municipal parking. At the Cliffs of Moher, parking belongs to the visitor admission charged per person. These are different arrangements, so a free parking stop at a cave does not describe the cost of your next coastal stop.
For the National Park, start your planning at Corofin. The information point has toilets; the trailhead at Kenny's Cross/Gortlecka has no visitor facilities or designated roadside parking. The park shuttle is seasonal, so establish the transport for your intended date rather than treating it as an all-year connection.

Galway as a starting point
The small-group option on this page starts in Galway and includes a local guide and air-conditioned vehicle. Hotel pickup requires direct contact at least 24 hours before the tour. Treat it as a day excursion from the city when organising your travel from Shannon. For the city itself, use Galway city guide.
For independent visits, match your bus or car route to the Doolin Cave arrival arrangements or the Cliffs visitor area. The coastal walk is not a through route from Doolin to the visitor centre under the status dated 1 August 2026. Reach your destination by its planned transport route and respect closure signs.
